Man killed while getting out of his truck on I-15 to change tire

CLEARFIELD— A man trying to change his tire on the highway was fatally struck by a car Wednesday evening, resulting in a serious accident.

Utah Highway Patrol Sergeant. Rick Shrader told KSL TV that the 35-year-old man’s truck was in the southbound HOV lane of Interstate 15 near 350 South.

Shrader The man reportedly got out of the truck and stood in the narrow shoulder area. Passing cars didn’t notice the man until it was too late and tried to avoid him.

Cops said at least two cars were involved in the accident as one car turned right and the other tried to turn left, but one of the cars hit him fatally.

Shrader identified the man as Hispanic but did not give his name. No other injuries were reported.

The Utah Department of Transportation reported that I-15 was closed around 8 p.m. UDOT had no estimate of when it would reopen.
