One dead after crash near Orange Cove

One person has died after a crash near Orange Cove, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to CHP, they received a call about a traffic accident on Hills Valley Road north of Manning Avenue on Wednesday afternoon around 4:50 p.m.

CHP’s investigation and witness statements indicate that a 22-year-old man was driving a Toyota Corolla northbound.

Witnesses tell CHP that the man was passing other traffic.

A 25-year-old woman was driving a GMC southbound.

The GMC attempted to swerve to avoid a collision, lost control, and the Corolla and GMC eventually collided.

The GMC then turned sideways and was struck by a third vehicle driven by a 44-year-old man.

The woman in the GMC died as a result of her injuries.

The 48-year-old man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Hills Valley Road was closed for a time following the accident.

CHP has not determined who was at fault.

This crash is still under investigation.

According to the CHP, drugs, alcohol and the weather do not appear to be factors in the crash at this time.

The Tulare County Coroner took the deceased woman’s body because the road is on the Fresno-Tulare County border and the investigation was handled by Fresno CHP.
