Just after 8:30 p.m. today, Colorado State University sent out an emergency alert email asking people to avoid the area around Laurel Hall on The Oval. The alert was provided by NoCo Alert and the email follows the alert that a deceased person was found in Alpine Hall earlier today.

At 9:20 p.m. another message was sent that the shelter in place was lifted.

“Law enforcement from CSU and Fort Collins Police conducted a thorough search of the area and the suspect is believed to have fled campus,” the alert said.

According to the alarm, the incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m

At 8:55 p.m., another email alerted students to “police activity on campus following a serious knife attack near Laurel Hall on the CSU Oval.”

The alert urges residents to shelter in place as the person may still be on campus. The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, wearing a black backpack and black shirt, and was walking.

The email notes that the incident is “under investigation separately from the incident today” and lists university safety resources.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
