30 dead cats discovered in Jackson apartment complex dumpster

JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) – A shocking discovery at a Jackson apartment complex is shaking the neighborhood.

About 30 dead cats were found in a dumpster on the property, prompting Jackson County Animal Control to hunt for the person responsible.

Jackson County Animal Control Officer Shawn Lutz said when so many animals are found, it’s usually due to a hoarding situation.

“A lot of times people start hoarding or acquiring more animals than they can financially support, and things like that happen a lot,” Lutz said.

A tip call led investigators to the Grand River Ridge Apartments, also known as Abbey Villas. There they found the dead cats, packed in sacks and a carrier bag.

“Whoever is responsible for this, something has to happen to them. Something definitely has to happen to them,” said Jeff Pool, who lives in the apartment complex.

Officer Lutz said they had a pretty good head start and planned to file animal cruelty charges.

This is still an active investigation.
