Albany woman arrested for assault and throwing shotgun from a building

Police arrested a 47-year-old Albany woman in a domestic incident on North Pearl Street Tuesday evening.

At approximately 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a residence after reports of someone with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers learned that Melinda Morrissey was arguing with a man about relationship problems when she pointed a shotgun at him, hitting him in the head. The man suffered a minor head injury.

Morrissey then left the residence and threw a shotgun from the roof of the building. The gun landed on a parked car and shattered the windshield. Officers recovered the shotgun and took Morrissey into custody. The shotgun was not loaded.

Morrissey was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, assault and reckless criminal mischief.

She was charged and sentenced to probation.
