Springfield man charged with 1st degree murder, weapons charges in shooting of Antoine Williams

SPRINGFIELD, IL – On October 14, 2024, at approximately 3:49 p.m., the Springfield Police Emergency Response Team and members of the Criminal Investigation Division served a search warrant in the 2000 block of S. 15th Street. Ventellis B. Cooper (male, 48 years old) of Springfield was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon and Possession of a Firearm – No FOID.

On October 16, 2024, Cooper was charged by the Sangamon County Prosecutor’s Office with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated unlawful use of a firearm and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with the October 13, 2024 shooting resulting in the death of Antoine Williams. Cooper made his first appearance on the charges and was jailed. His next court date is October 31, 2024.
