“My Dress-Up Darling Drama” sparks debate over its controversial censorship

My dress-up favorite has returned to the big screen with a new live-action series, and one of the episodes has caught the attention of fans online for censoring a key moment between Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo. Shinichi Fukuda My dress-up favorite has been growing in popularity in recent years following the successful debut of its TV anime adaptation in 2022. While the anime is currently working on a standalone return to the big screen and a sequel project is already in the works, the franchise has already made the jump to live-action with a brand new TV series now airing in Japan.

With mine Dress up darling With the new live-action series now airing in Japan, the second episode had one of the big scenes from the original series adapted, so fans were excited to see how it would make the jump to live-action. When the second episode of the series first adapted the now infamous/famous scene where Gojo measures Marin, fans noticed that there was a bit of censorship in the adaptation. In both the manga and anime releases she wears more of a bikini and in the live-action adaptation she wears a blouse and shorts instead. Not nearly as insightful as the original publications.

What changes are coming to the My Dress-Up Darling live-action series?

According to fans on social media who managed to watch the latest episode in Japan (since it hasn’t been released internationally yet as of this writing), it’s the second episode of My dress-up favoriteThe live-action series features the big scene that caused a stir among anime fans when it was adapted in 2022. The second episode of the TV anime spent essentially all of its time in the measurement scenes, as the animation of certain features of Marin adopted that of the anime, taking the popularity to a whole new level.

But in the live-action series, fans noticed that the scene moves much faster and also messes up the timeline of some events from the original series. Riko Nagase’s Marin wears an outfit that isn’t all that revealing, and that makes a lot of sense for a live-action version of the series. Given the age of the characters, a revealing scene like those in the other releases may not be as easy to pull off in a live-action sense. It’s easier to get away with things like this in animated films because they’re not real people.

Should you watch the My Dress-Up Darling anime instead?

This could be another reason why fans should ultimately read Shinichi Fukuda’s original manga release or TV anime adaptation. My dress-up favoriteThe live-action series is already sparking debate over how it changes this first Marin outfit, and it doesn’t come close to some of the other wilder outfits Marin suggests she wear later. However, the unfortunate effect of this change is that fans don’t get to see many of the sweeter and more awkward moments between Marin and Gojo because they rush through or change the scene.

It’s a change that makes sense for the adaptation, but loses some impact in the context of the series as a whole. My dress-up favorite A sequel to the anime is currently in development, but the format (whether it’s an OVA special, a movie, or a second season), release plans, staff, or returning cast has yet to be announced at the time of release this publication. So fans hoping to see more of the franchise in action may have to keep waiting for the return or jump on the latest releases of the manga to hit shelves if the changes to the live-action series become too big are to deal with it.
