Birmingham police announce arrest in mass shooting and multiple murders

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham police announced arrests Wednesday in several recent homicides.

Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond announced that 22-year-old Damian McDaniel has been charged in connection with the mass shooting in Birmingham Five Points South entertainment district and in two other shootings.

Authorities said McDaniel was charged with murder and 17 counts of attempted murder in the mass shooting in Five Points South.

McDaniel was also charged with murder in the shooting Diontranet Brown at 604 Bar and Lounge at 9th Street N., Sept. 19. Authorities say it appears Brown was an innocent bystander in the shooting.

On September 22nd Jemarcus Desean McIntrye Was shot in the 700 block of 81st Place South. Damien McDaniel, Ny’Quan Lollar, Larry Rollins Jr. and Demarco Beck were charged in the shooting. Your fees are listed below:

  • Capital murder
  • Three counts of attempted murder

Ny’Quan Lollar

  • Capital murder
  • Three counts of attempted murder

Larry Rollins Jr.

  • Capital murder
  • Heroin trafficking

Demarco Beck

All fees for all four people are not subject to a deposit.

BPD says it has received over 300 tips through Crime Stoppers and the BPD QR code.

“We applaud the community for coming forward. We’ve never had so many tips before. Hats off to the community for sharing this information with us and being willing to share this information with us,” Thurmond said.
