Woman guilty in Kane County sexual assault case

KANE COUNTY, IL – A Kane County judge has found Maricela Garcia guilty of sexual assault of a child, aggravated assault on a child and domestic violence.

Garcia waived her right to a trial.

According to the prosecutor’s office, between May 7 and 8, 2021, Garcia used an object to penetrate the sexual organ of the victim, who was under 13 years old at the time. The victim and the defendant lived in the same household, authorities said.

Garcia now faces a prison sentence of between 6 and 60 years.

She is next expected in court on November 22nd for submissions and sentencing.
