STERLING, Colo. (KKTV) – A police department in Colorado is investigating an attempted child abduction case.

The Sterling Police Department shared details with the public in a news release posted on social media Wednesday, saying the alleged crime happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Walnut Street.

“An 8-year-old girl was allegedly attacked by an unknown man who entered her home,” part of the press release reads. “The girl managed to escape the attacker and reported the incident to her parents, who called the police.”

According to police, the suspect fled the area on foot. The suspect is described as a white male with a “darker” complexion, a thin build, approximately 6 feet tall, and bald or closely shaved hair. Police could not estimate the suspect’s age but said he was wearing a dark sweatshirt and pants.

Police also wanted to urge parents to take safety measures for their children, including:

– Lock windows and doors

– Make sure living spaces are well lit

-Report suspicious people
