Traffic is being rerouted on 1st Avenue following a pedestrian accident in Cedar Rapids

Update: According to Cedar Rapids Police, a 72-year-old male pedestrian was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

UPDATE: Cedar Rapids Police say the road at the intersection of 1st Avenue Southeast and 21st Street Southeast is now open to traffic in both directions. The investigators were able to complete their work earlier than expected.

Eastbound traffic at the intersection of 1st Avenue Southeast and 21st Street Southeast was stopped and rerouted after a pedestrian was struck by a car Wednesday.

Cedar Rapids Police say traffic can still move through, but delays are expected. Drivers are advised to avoid the area around 1st Avenue Southeast near Cottage Grove and 21st Street Southeast.

This closure is expected to last for most of the morning as police investigate the accident.
