Former NYPD officer and wife die in apparent murder-suicide in Yonkers

Yonkers police say they are investigating an apparent murder-suicide early Wednesday.

Police said they received a report of an unconscious person at a home on Chittenden Ave. 142 received.

When they arrived, officers said they found the body of a man with a gunshot wound to the head and a woman with multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

According to police, first responders attempted life-saving measures on the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials identified the man as 54-year-old Sean O’Neil, a retired NYPD police officer. The woman was 47-year-old Arlene O’Neill, a teacher in the Eastchester Union Free School District.

Officials say the couple has three children who were home at the time of the incident but were not physically injured.
