Kansas City Chiefs RB honored for heroism after shootout in Super Bowl rally

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A national organization is working with the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL to find a time to honor a player for his heroism.

The Uvalde Foundation for Kids honored Clyde Edwards-Helaire with its Heroism Award. Edwards-Helaire received the honor for protecting a 13-year-old during the shootout at the Super Bowl rally.

Edwards-Helaire learned of the honor in February. The Uvalde Foundation for Kids announced he will receive the award in November. An exact date and time for the presentation have not been announced.

The Chiefs running back, his teammates and other members of the organization were still in Union Station when the shooting occurred.

Lisa Lopez-Galvan died from her injuries in the shooting. More than 20 other people were injured.
