The New York Giants (2-4) didn’t have much to smile about in 2024. One of the only bright spots was All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas, who is now lost for the season. Thomas, who is dealing with a foot injury, underwent season-ending surgery, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones.

To replace Thomas, New York could turn to its seventh pick from the 2022 NFL Draft in Evan Neal. The 24-year-old started all 13 of his games in 2022 as a rookie at right tackle, and he started all seven games he played previously in 2023 suffered a season-ending ankle injury. Neal was demoted to backup status at the start of the 2024 season as the Giants signed Jermaine Eluemunor that offseason and then moved him from guard to tackle when Neal was not ready for training camp.

Neal ranked 84th out of 85 qualified tackles in Pro Football Focus’ grading system in 2023 after giving up 20 quarterback pressures on just 309 pass-blocking snaps. That was after a rookie year in which he ranked 86th in tackles with 89, while allowing 52 quarterback pressures on 534 pass-blocking snaps.

The Giants’ offense, a moribund group that scored its first touchdown in a home game started by quarterback Daniel Jones in 651 days (since January 1, 2023) in their 17-7 loss in Week 6 to the Cincinnati Bengals, could be on a new level plunges lows in the future.
