Woman’s nose severed in machete attack by horse stable employee: PBSO

A man is accused of attacking two people with a machete in a horse stable, completely severing a woman’s nose.

On Tuesday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) responded to a 911 call in which a woman reported that her nose had been cut off with a machete.

Officers reported that they arrived at the scene to find a man and a woman in a horse stable suffering from serious injuries. The two victims were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center to receive medical care and interviews with investigators.

The woman told investigators that she owns a horse stable where people stable their horses. She said she hired 56-year-old Abundio Jasso as a horse groom about a month ago and allowed him to live in a mobile home on her property.

The woman further told investigators that she and Jasso had several arguments because he became drunk and aggressive when she asked him to perform his duties.

According to the report, around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, she noticed that Jasso had not yet completed his nightly inspection of the stables. She has another tenant who lives in the stable and helps look after Jasso with her. When Jasso opened the door of his RV, he appeared to be drunk and shone a flashlight in both of their eyes. The woman and man decided to carry out the night inspection themselves to defuse the situation.

The victims told PBSO that as they were completing the night patrol, Jasso appeared out of nowhere and produced a large machete that he had hidden in his waistband.

The man with the stable owner tried to defuse the situation by standing between her and Jasso, but Jasso hit him with the machete, PBSO said.

The man told officers he then saw Jasso strike the woman in the face with the machete, completely severing her nose and causing her to fall to the ground.

The report states that the man, fearing for her life, attempted to jump between Jasso and the woman when Jasso hit him with the machete, slashing his arm and chest.

The man was able to push Jasso back during their argument, allowing the two victims to escape Jasso and hide in a locked room in the barn to call 911.

When officers tried to get Jasso out of his RV, where he was hiding after the altercation, he told them he was angry at the stable owner for calling him trash and insulting him.

The woman suffered serious injuries, including a severed nose, facial trauma and a fractured upper jawbone. The man suffers from a metacarpal fracture in his wrist, a large laceration to his wrist that required 17 stitches, and lacerations to his triceps and ribcage.

Jasso is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
