Video, witnesses lead to arrest of suspect in fatal stabbing in Homewood

Surveillance video and witness statements helped Pittsburgh police piece together what they believe happened in the early morning hours Monday that led to a fatal stabbing in Homewood, according to court records.

Investigators said Raniesha Scott, 27, and Maurissa L. Plummer, 21, both of Homewood, had been arguing for hours when witnesses reported seeing Plummer chasing Scott around the neighborhood with a knife. Scott was found with a fatal chest wound at a home on Lyric Street around 5 a.m

Investigators found Plummer in a nearby apartment. According to court documents, surveillance video from that location showed Plummer admitting to using a pocket knife and telling others inside that she had been pushed. Police said she was seen leaving and entering the apartment around the time of the stabbing.

Two witnesses told investigators they heard people saying, “Drop the knife.” Plummer was charged Tuesday with a single count of murder, according to court records. She has no criminal record and did not have an attorney registered.

She was denied bail and taken to the Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 25.
