Pittsburgh synagogue shooting memorial plaque stolen from Allderdice High School

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (KDKA) – A plaque in honor of the eleven victims of the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting was stolen from outside Taylor Allderdice High School in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood.

A spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Schools says the plaque’s absence was recently discovered, but it is unclear when it was removed from school grounds.

Investigators were unable to locate potential suspects using security footage.

Eleven people were killed on October 27, 2018 when a gunman entered the “Tree of Life” synagogue. Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil and David Rosenthal, Bernice and Sylvan Simon, Dan Stein, Melvin Wax and Irving Younger were all killed.

School officials say a replacement plaque has been ordered and will be installed ahead of the upcoming memorial service marking the sixth anniversary of the deadly shooting.

“We remain committed to honoring the memory of the victims and emphasizing the importance of this memorial to our community,” the district said.
