Here are the first images we have of the scene in Violet Close, Newcastle this morning following reports of an ‘explosion’ last night.

The North East Ambulance Service has confirmed that three adults and a child were injured in the incident and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Roads around the area have been closed by police while firefighters continue their operations.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to an incident in the Elswick area of ​​Newcastle at 12.45am today (October 16).”

“We sent four paramedic teams, four teams from our HART (Hazard Area Response Team), a doctor, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, a duty officer and a tactical advisor to the scene.

“We treated four patients – three adults and one child – and transported them to hospital for further treatment.”

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Just before 12.45pm today (Wednesday) police were contacted by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service dealing with a fire at an address in the Violet Close area of ​​Newcastle.”
