Walter Presents, HBO, Arte, Filmin are among the buyers of Beta Film |’s CEE drama series News

Germany’s Beta Film has secured a number of sales for its shows in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), including licensing its Latvian dramedy “Soviet Jeans” to Walter Presents in the US, UK, Ireland and Canada.

The eight-part series, produced by Tasse Film, was also picked up by HBO in the CEE region, Arte for Germany and France and Filmin in Spain and Portugal.

The dramedy, set in Soviet Latvia, is about a rebellious young rock fan who sets up a fake jeans production in a mental asylum. The streamer VOYO in Slovakia and the Czech Republic as well as the Hungarian broadcaster MTVA have also taken over the show.

HBO in CEE and Filmin in Spain and Portugal have also acquired the Serbian thriller “Operation Sabre”, which deals with the aftermath of the assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić in 2003.

Two of the beta shows set in Sarajevo, “I Know Your Soul” and “The Hollow,” received international deals, with Arte taking the first for Germany and France, HBO for Central and Eastern Europe, and the second picked up by Australian pubcaster SBS . The Australian outlet also picked up The Hollow.

Additionally, Ukrainian war drama In Her Car was picked up by RTÉ in Ireland and Canal+ for Austria, Poland, Hungary, the Netherlands and Romania, while Czech TV’s hostage thriller Ultimatum was picked up by Walter Presents in the UK and Ireland.
