The cause of death was determined to be an injury to the neck, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

According to KTLA, the man who fled the scene in a car that crashed a few miles down the road was none other than the victim’s 19-year-old son, Emir Lowe.

He was taken into custody by LASD on suspicion of killing his father.

Emir Lowe is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. He is being held in the Los Angeles County Jail on a $2 million bond, according to the report.

Paul Lowe had a decades-long career as a journalist and was an award-winning war photographer. He reported on the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Bosnian War, the Romanian Revolution and the siege of Sarajevo. Lowe was also a popular professor at the University of the Arts in London.

Lowe’s most famous photo was a 1992 black-and-white image of a child with a ball, taken during the Siege of Sarajevo. His work has been featured in prestigious publications such as Time, Newsweek, Sunday Times, The Observer and The Independent.

Ika Ferrer Gotic, a senior international news producer and anchor for CNN, wrote on X: “We lost more than one photographer when #PaulLowe died. We have lost a witness to our history, a storyteller who showed the world the truths that many wanted to ignore.”
