Be prepared for the number of political texts to increase in the final weeks before the election

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – If political candidates aren’t already blowing up your phone, they’re about to do it.

Experts predict the number of political texts you receive will only increase as Election Day approaches.

Dr. Michael Smith, a political science professor at Emporia State University, said campaigns are turning to text messages rather than calls because it’s less work and more effective.

“Most people these days monitor their phone calls,” Smith said, “they won’t answer the phone if the person calling isn’t on their caller list, and so it’s virtually impossible to reach people you don’t already know on the phone. “”

A response of “STOP” is intended to remove you from the list. To avoid receiving the texts in the first place, experts recommend avoiding including your phone number on your voter registration.
