Former South Florida airman charged with sexual assault at British base in 2019

MIAMI – A former U.S. Air Force service member faces three federal charges in federal court in South Florida after authorities accused him of sexually assaulting another service member at an Air Force base in the United Kingdom.

A judge on Tuesday dismissed the indictment against 36-year-old James Loubeau of Miami, prosecutors said. He is accused of one count of sexual abuse and two counts of abusive sexual contact.

According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Loubeau sexually assaulted the victim on May 4, 2019, at Royal Air Force Mildenhall. The base is in Suffolk, England.

Prosecutors said Loubeau was discharged from the military in 2020.

Further details about the allegations were not immediately available Tuesday afternoon.

Prosecutors said the charges were brought under the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act, “which establishes U.S. jurisdiction over certain crimes committed abroad, including by individuals who have served in the armed forces but are no longer subject to military prosecution.” .”

Loubeau faces a possible life sentence if convicted.

He was listed in Broward County jail records Tuesday morning but had not been listed since Tuesday afternoon.

Loubeau was not listed in a federal inmate database as of Tuesday afternoon.
