Boston Common stabbing suspect arrested by police

BOSTON – After a thorough investigation following a knife attack on Boston Common, Boston police have arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for the violent attack earlier this month.

At 8:18 a.m. on October 1, District A-1 officers were alerted to an assault and battery near Brewer Fountain on Boston Common.

Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Officers administered first aid and applied a tourniquet until the victim could be transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Following the incident, District A-1 detectives initiated a comprehensive investigation that resulted in the identification of a suspect.

An arrest warrant was then issued.

In a separate operation focused on drug enforcement, officers from Districts A-1, E-5 and D-4 Drug Enforcement Units located 27-year-old Philip Chen of Quincy, MA at approximately 12:10 a.m. 12 on October 13th at the intersection of Summer St. and Otis St. downtown.

Officers recognized Chen as the suspect who still had an outstanding warrant for the Boston Common stabbing and arrested him without incident.

Chen is charged with, among other things, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury, assault and battery on an elderly and/or disabled person causing serious injury, and theft of less than $250 by an elderly and/or disabled person .

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
