ACSO detective appears in court and pleads to two counts of assault and battery

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – Augusta County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Charles (CJ) Taylor appeared in Staunton District Court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty.

Taylor faces two counts of assault and battery. Those allegations came when he was caught on video “aggressively” throwing a man to the ground during a traffic stop after he claimed the man was hostile toward him.

According to court documents, Taylor will plead not guilty to the charges but indicated there was sufficient evidence to convict.

In both cases the order is postponed for 12 months. During this time, Taylor must keep the peace, be of good behavior, obey the law, and pay the legal costs associated with this prosecution.

Taylor is scheduled to appear in court again on October 15, 2025.

WHSV reached out to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office for comment, but the office said it was unable to comment due to ongoing litigation and the upcoming trial.
