Suspect dead after SWAT barricade incident in Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KABC) — A suspect is dead after a police standoff in Hawthorne.

The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon on Aviation Boulevard north of El Segundo Boulevard.

Hawthorne SWAT officers surrounded an upside-down vehicle on the road. A deceased person could be seen in the driver’s seat. Officers were observed removing a weapon from the vehicle.

Hawthorne police said Santa Monica police are investigating. It was not immediately clear whether the suspect was connected to Monday night’s shooting at Santa Monica College.
