2 dead after shooting at Prescott home: YCSO

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Officials with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said an investigation is underway following a fatal shooting in the Prescott area.

According to a statement released Oct. 15, investigators say emergency responders were called to a home in the Wildwood Estates area of ​​Prescott in the early morning hours for a report of two people shot.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the man and woman involved were estranged in the past and were the subject of multiple ongoing domestic violence investigations,” part of the statement read. “Tragically, both individuals succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead.”

The identities of the two people are being withheld until next of kin are notified, officials said.

“It is believed that a retired Yavapai County Sheriff’s Deputy and current reserve deputy who lives nearby attempted to intervene and fired his weapon during the altercation,” part of the statement read. “Given the circumstances, the Sheriff’s Office has asked the Department of Public Safety to oversee the investigation.”
