Stabbing murder leads to first-degree murder charge against Elgin man – Shaw Local

An Elgin man currently charged with three counts of aggravated first-degree murder in connection with the Oct. 12 stabbing of another man was previously charged with aggravated assault in an unprovoked attack on a juvenile in St. Charles on Sept. 28 accused.

According to the new news release about the stabbing, 21-year-old Anderson A. Contreras has also been charged with aggravated assault.

Court records show Kane County Associate Judge Lawrence Lobb was placed on pretrial supervision following the attack on the teen on the football field at Thompson Middle School.

In the attack on the teen, Contreras was charged with three counts of aggravated assault in a public place, as well as two counts of assault and one count of resisting a police officer, according to court records and a St. Charles police news release.

Contreras’ address is listed in the more recent indictment as the 700 block of Dundee Avenue, Elgin, but the previous news release about the teen’s attack listed him as homeless.

Elgin police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 12, the release said.

Police found the victim with life-threatening injuries to his upper body. He was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital and later died from his injuries, the release said. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15th.

After police investigated, Contreras was taken into custody, charged and taken to the Kane County Jail to await detention hearings.

He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 24 on the murder charge and Oct. 30 on the aggravated assault charge, according to court records.

The three murder charges allege intent to cause death or serious bodily harm; probability of death; and violent crime. If convicted, the minimum penalty is 20 years in prison and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment.

Contreras had been under investigation for misdemeanor domestic battery since August, when the incident occurred on Sept. 28. He was scheduled to appear in court on that charge on Oct. 16, according to court records.

Judge Lobb did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. Kane County Prosecutor Jamie Mosser also did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment on Contreras’ release.
