Kent State student dies in ‘horrific accident’ after falling from roof

KENT, Ohio (WOIO) – A Kent State University student died after an off-campus accident Friday, according to university officials.

A statement from the school confirmed the death of Jayden Brieske, a sophomore at the university.

Police confirmed the accident occurred early Thursday morning.

The student and two friends climbed to the roof of the University Inn, police said.

The three walked around the roof when Brieske fell nearly eight stories, officials confirmed.

According to officials, Brieske was from Wisconsin and studied general business administration.

A GoFundMe collection for Bring Jayden Home says the student died in a horrific accident near campus.

“After Jayden’s accident, he spent two days at the best trauma hospital Ohio has to offer. Unfortunately, despite all life-saving measures and surgeries, Jayden succumbed to his injuries,” the GoFundMe states.

I am sorry to inform you that the young man passed away due to his injuries sometime on Friday. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday 10/24/10. Jayden Brieske and two of his friends had decided to climb to the roof of the University Inn, where one of the boys lives. The three young men ran around on the roof and Jayden fell almost eight stories to the sidewalk/parking lot below. Jayden’s friends immediately rendered assistance and called 9-1-1. There is no reason to suspect foul play, although we believe alcohol played a role. This is a terrible tragedy. Our condolences go out to Jayden’s family.
