A 49-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault on Tottenham season ticket holder Eve De Haan.

De Haan described in the Guardian how a traveling Brentford fan elbowed her in the face, sexually assaulted her and verbally abused her on an elevated train after Spurs’ 3-1 win over Brentford at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. De Haan wrote that she reported her claims to staff at the Seven Sisters station.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “I can confirm that a 49-year-old man from Staines-upon-Thames has been arrested and released on bail.”

A Brentford spokesman said the club “understands that a suspect has been arrested in connection with this incident and a police investigation is now underway.” The club will fully support the authorities throughout this process and will consider the findings before taking any action in accordance our club sanctions policy.”

Tottenham said in a statement: “The club stands firmly against misogyny and all forms of violence against women and girls.” We were the first club to sign up to the Mayor of London’s Night Safety Charter and have spoken directly to Eve to promote ours to offer full support as well as that of our dedicated fan group for women and non-binary fans of the men’s team, Women of the Alley.

“The club is also offering its full support to the ongoing police investigation and we will be contacting transport providers to discuss more frequent services on match days.”
