Avondale police find a dead man in a vehicle outside a restaurant

PHOENIX — A man was found dead in the parking lot of an Avondale restaurant Monday, prompting the closure of nearby schools, according to authorities.

According to Avondale police, the victim was in a vehicle outside Number 1 Buffet on McDowell Road near 99th Avenue, south of the Gateway Pavilions shopping center.

Officers found the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound while responding to a shooting call in the area.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

While police searched the area for possible suspects, nearby schools were cordoned off as a precaution.

No further information was provided. The investigation is ongoing.
