Community supports family after mine accident

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Many people in southern Colorado are expressing support for the family and son of a man who died in an accident at an old mine.

Nearly a dozen people were trapped for hours 1,000 feet below the surface in the Mollie Kathleen mine. Patrick Weier died in the mine.

Weier was a tour guide in the mine. Investigators are investigating how he died.

Weier’s brother works to raise money for Patrick’s son. A go fund has raised more than $45,000 and that money will be used to support Weier’s 7-year-old son in his future.
