Kewaskum Fire; Woman, child taken to hospital, 2 dogs rescued

An apartment building in Kewaskum was damaged by fire on Monday, October 14th. At approximately 11:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the area of ​​Highway 28 and Mill Road

When emergency services arrived at the scene, thick black smoke was billowing from the front door.

All residents of the apartment building, two adults and a child, evacuated themselves before the fire department arrived at the scene.

Two dogs remained in the apartment. Kewaskum Fire found both dogs alive in a bedroom. They were brought to safety by the fire department.

An initial investigation revealed that a homeowner in the lower unit was home with a child when she heard a bang coming from the kitchen. As she investigated the bang, she noticed flames and immediately called 911. She and the child were evacuated, and the upstairs tenant evacuated shortly thereafter.

The woman and child were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist the inmates. Highway 28 was closed to traffic for approximately an hour to assist with fire operations.

The fire remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
