Springfield enters into first of nine contracts with police unions

SPRINGFIELD — New contracts for Springfield police sergeants, lieutenants and captains will provide pay raises and resolve unresolved issues in the federal consent decree calling for police department reforms.

The Springfield Police Supervisors Association ratified the contracts, which run retroactively from July to June 2028, on Sept. 19. The City Council gave its final approval last week by a vote of 13-0.

The contracts are terminated as a one-year contract for the 2025 financial year, followed by a three-year agreement. They include 71 employees, said William Mahoney, the city’s human resources director.
