At large parolee arrested after robbery and assault at Valero gas station

The Redding Police Department (RPD) arrested an at-large parolee on Monday after he robbed a Valero in Redding and threatened to shoot everyone in the store.

RPD said its officers responded to the Valero at 2026 Eureka Way in Redding around 7 a.m. Monday after reports of a robbery. The suspect was determined to be an adult black male who had entered the store before walking directly behind the employee’s counter. Once behind the counter, the suspect immediately grabbed several packs of cigarettes and told the store employee, “If you stop me from stealing, I will shoot everyone.”

The suspect then attacked the clerk before he left the store on foot westbound on Eureka Way. Officers began searching the area and located the suspect in close proximity to Valero. The suspect fled on foot but was quickly arrested and taken into custody.

The suspect refused to identify himself when confronted by police. RPD said a search of the suspect uncovered an Apple iPad hidden on his person, which police later discovered had been stolen Monday morning. The suspect was later identified at the Shasta County Jail as 47-year-old Cleveland Collins of Los Angeles.

Collins was found to be a Parolee at Large (PAL) and a 290 registrant with a primary offense of lewd/lewd acts on a child under 14 years of age. RPD said Collins has an additional warrant out of Alameda County for failure to register as a gender offender.

Collins was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of robbery, assault, criminal threats, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property and warrants.
