At seven o’clock Monday night in the dock, four undecided voters gathered in the Fledge to watch the debate between U.S. Senate candidates Elissa Slotkin and Mike Rogers of Michigan.

“I think this debate will help me decide who I’m going to lean on,” Lansing resident King Robertson said.

As each candidate took center stage in Detroit, their priorities were highlighted. Slotkin touched on things like maintaining automotive investment in the U.S. and protecting women’s reproductive rights, which particularly caught the eye of undecided voter Tonya Harris.

“When I speak out as a woman, it should be my decision what I do with my body internally and externally. No one should be ignorant of what I do with my body,” Harris said.

Rogers talked about fighting inflation and improving border security.

“I feel like our border security is weakened and it could really be improved if you ask me, so I really agree with his views on border security,” Robertson said.

At the end of the debate, most undecided voters had made their decision. There were two voters who leaned toward Slotkin.

“Because I feel like she’s more authentic, she won my voter,” said Lansing voter David Odom.

One voter leans toward Rogers.

“Mike Rogers just has more experience,” Robertson said.

And someone who still has a few weeks to decide.

“No, none of them convinced me, I’m going to leave that section on the ballot blank,” said Jerry Norris of Lansing.
