Meteorologists are monitoring the system in the Atlantic for possible developments

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a low pressure system in the Central Atlantic.

The system, designated AL94, produces occasional showers and thunderstorms, but is embedded in a dry air environment.

However, it is expected to move westward, where environmental conditions could allow it to at least develop into a tropical depression by mid to late week.

Current forecast models show the system moving toward Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, said Bill Walsh, chief meteorologist for Live 5 First Alert.

If it develops into a tropical storm, it would take the name Nadine.
