1 dead, 1 injured after rollover crash in Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV) – There was one death and one injured in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 20 near milepost 7 Friday morning, according to Oregon State Police (OSP).

According to OSP, 18-year-old Jacob Barlett of Florence attempted to turn onto Northeast Arcadia Drive in his Nissan Titan at a very high rate of speed, causing the car to leave the road, roll over several times and end up upside down.

The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital by LifeFlight.

The passenger, 18-year-old Benito Kirk Esquivel Whitney, was found dead at the scene.

The highway was closed for about an hour after the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with speed believed to be the primary factor.
