Central Maine Medical Center is hosting a memorial blood drive to honor the victims of the Lewiston shooting

LEWISTON, Maine (WMTW) – Central Maine Medical Center will host the “One Lewiston” blood drive on Monday to commemorate the upcoming one-year anniversary of the mass shooting in Lewiston.

The campaign, carried out in collaboration with the American Red Cross and LifeFlight, aims to collect 1,025 units of blood in honor of October 25, the day of the tragedy.

According to CMMC, the shootings highlighted “the urgent need to maintain an adequate blood supply” during a mass casualty event.

Monday’s trip will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a second trip taking place on Friday. Anyone who would like to donate blood can register online at redcrossblood.org.

CMMC encourages the community to post about the blood drive on social media using the hashtag “#onelewiston.”

CMMC also encourages those who do not donate blood to instead consider supporting their Compassionate Care Fund, which helps patients, caregivers and communities affected by mass casualties such as the Lewiston mass shooting.
