Family dispute leads to shots being fired in Douglas

DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) – A man was arrested after he shot his son and threatened to kill his son’s stepson, according to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.

WALB has learned from Douglas Now that on Wednesday, October 2, 60-year-old Larry McLeod threatened to kill his son’s stepson, then pointed a gun at his son and fired a shot over his head. The incident began the day before when McLeod and his son’s stepson allegedly argued about cleaning up the storm damage, the report said.

During the argument, several people went outside, including the stepson. When McLeod saw the stepson, they began arguing, then he said he would “f***ing kill him.”

According to the report, the son pulled out a gun after hearing the alleged threat but kept it at his side. McLeod then left the apartment and returned with a gun. McLeod allegedly pressed the gun to his son’s chest, then pointed it at his head, then pointed the gun above his son’s head and fired one shot, the report said.

Shortly thereafter, officers arrived to arrest McLeod and found the gun, a .40-caliber Glock, in a gun safe.

McLeod is accused of serious bodily harm and terroristic threats and acts.
