Man dies in tractor-trailer accident in Sac County

A man was killed in a semi-truck accident in Sac County over the weekend.

According to Sac County Sheriff Ken McClure, the accident occurred early Saturday morning southwest of Odebolt, north of County Road D-59 and Cory Avenue. A preliminary investigation revealed that 29-year-old Jeff Pubien of Omaha, Nebraska was driving north on Cory Avenue where he crossed over D-59 and lost control on the gravel road. Cory Avenue is a paved road south of D-59 and turns to gravel on the north side of the intersection. The semi-truck drove into the west ditch, where the semi-truck rolled several times before coming to rest on its passenger side in a harvested corn field. Pubien was not wearing a seatbelt and was trapped in the cab. He was rescued by Odebolt Fire Rescue.

GPS data obtained from the tractor-trailer showed the accident occurred at 2:37 a.m. Saturday. It wasn’t until almost three hours later that authorities were called to the scene. Pubien was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy. Sac County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the accident.
