Listeria Fears Cause Albertsons to Recall Certain Prepared Meals in Multiple States – Albertsons Companies (NYSE:ACI)

On Friday, Albertsons Companies, Inc. ACI has voluntarily recalled 12 types of Fresh Creative Foods ready meals and deli items due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The recalled prepared foods and deli items were sold at Albertsons, Safeway, Jewel-Osco, Vons and stores in several states, including California, Texas, Illinois and Washington.

The recall was prompted by Fresh Creative Foods’ action after routine testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) detected contamination in a ready-to-eat chicken ingredient manufactured by BrucePac in Durant, Oklahoma.

Listeria can cause serious infections in vulnerable groups, including the elderly, young children and pregnant women, leading to symptoms such as fever, nausea and, in severe cases, miscarriage.

The company said people at risk should seek medical attention if they experience flu-like symptoms after eating contaminated food.

In September, Albertsons launched Bee Lightly, which features an innovative flat bottle made from 100% recycled PET, a first in the U.S. wine industry.

Price action: ACI shares were up 0.05% at $18.38 in premarket trading on Monday at last check.
