Investigation launched into Kavarapet train accident after railway officials were summoned | Chennai News

CHENNAI: At least five Railway officials appeared on Monday before Investigators Exploring the Train accident in Kavarapet reported on Friday.
At least 30 train passengers were injured after the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express train collided with the rear of a freight train parked on the loop track of Kavarapet railway station. In the accident, around twelve wagons were derailed and overturned.
According to the police, there were no injuries because the coupling of the Linke-Hofmann-Busch wagons (LHVB) pulled forward prevented telescoping.
While the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has started probing the train accident to ascertain whether sabotage was involved, the Korukkupet Railway Police is also investigating the incident.
State Railway Police (GRP) Deputy Superintendent Karnan on Monday summoned 10 railway officials, including the Ponneri station manager, to the office for a detailed inquiry.
The summons were also issued to the Signals Department of the Ministry of Railways and the Maintenance Department of the Ministry of Railways. Meanwhile, at least five railway officials, including Ponneri station master Gowrikanth and others, appeared before DSP Karnan of Chennai Central Railway Station.
