Hastings: Police say the gun was pointed at witnesses to a serious assault

A woman is in hospital with head injuries after a public attack in Hastings in which a gun was allegedly pointed at bystanders, police said.

Senior Sergeant Kevin Stewart said in a statement that police are seeking witnesses to the aggravated attack on Roberts St.

Stewart said several 111 calls were made around 10.55am today after a man was seen attacking a woman on the street.

“Before the suspect left the scene, a firearm was reportedly pointed at bystanders.”

The victim is being treated in hospital for head injuries and police were searching for the suspect, who is believed to be known to them.
