When asked why Lennie took the role, Lennie James said: “Every actor who has seen and read Barry would love to play him as a character. He’s everything an actor would love – complicated, funny, well-dressed and tough.”

“He is also a contradiction – faithful but disloyal, a good and a bad husband, a good and a bad father, a good and a bad man.”

“He loves and hates equally. Every part of him is really interesting to me and would be to any actor. The opportunity to play him was a real no-brainer.”

Lennie James, famous for his roles as Morgan Jones in The Walking Dead, DCI Tony Gates in Line of Duty, Robert Hawkins in Jericho and starring in the gripping drama Save Me.

Sharon D. Clarke plays Carmel Walker

Carmel Walker, portrayed by Sharon D. Clarke, has been married to Barrington for over fifty years and suspects her husband of infidelity with various women. She deals with the reality of Barry’s affair with Morris and its impact on her life.

Speaking about her character, Sharon said: “She’s been in love with him since she was seventeen and she’s just waiting for that love to be returned but it just doesn’t happen so then it makes her bitter.”

“It also makes her question herself – she has this good man, so why don’t they have this perfect lifestyle and why don’t they have the loving side of the relationship, the human and gentle side?”

Sharon D. Clarke, a three-time Olivier Award winner, is known for her portrayals of Lola Griffin in Holby City, Grace O’Brien in Doctor Who and Virginia Hoult in the BBC drama Showtrial.

Barrington’s best friend and secret lover, Morris De La Roux, has been a lifelong friend of Barry’s since they were teenagers. Affectionately known as “Uncle Morris” in Barry’s family circle, the couple’s secret romance is soon brought to light.

Speaking about his role, Ariyon said: “Lennie is so professional that we found this easy way between us to just get into the role together and we just got along well. With Morris, because he is the quiet man in the family who sits in the corner and watches everything.

“He’s already lost everything waiting for Barry, and yet he’s firmly entrenched in the Walker family – Barry’s children call him ‘Uncle Morris’, for example.”

“As Ariyon, I kept asking myself, ‘How could you do this? How could you be a side man and yet sit so centrally and openly in the household, eating their food, loving his children and talking to his wife?!'” ‘

“These obstacles helped me in a way to play the role, and Hong helped me express that. They’ve all known each other for years and they’ve been a community since their time in Antigua, and within those communities these things happen.”

Arlyon also appeared in Life, Good Omens, His Dark Materials, The Bill, Casualty and Holby City.
