NEW DELHI: Several Bomb threats disturbed air and Train travel on Monday, causing diversions from original routes and worsening Security measures. An Air India flight to New York, IndiGo flights to Jeddah and Muscat and the Mumbai-Howrah Mail All trains were affected by a series of bomb threats, prompting emergency response.
Air India flight to New York diverted to Delhi
An Air India flight (AI119) carrying 239 passengers from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Delhi after a bomb threat was reported. Officials said the plane crashed emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport where all passengers were safely evacuated.
“The aircraft is currently based at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and all standard security protocols are being carefully followed to ensure the safety of passengers and crew on board,” said a senior police official monitoring the situation.
The bomb threat, which was allegedly received via a tweet, is currently being investigated. Authorities are conducting a thorough search of the aircraft to ensure there is no longer any danger.
In a statement, Air India confirmed the diversion citing a “specific safety alert” issued by the government’s Safety Regulatory Committee. “All passengers have disembarked and are at the Delhi airport terminal. “Our colleagues on site are ensuring that the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption is minimized,” the airline said.
IndiGo flight to Jeddah receives bomb threat
In a separate incident, an IndiGo flight (6E 56) from Mumbai to Jeddah and an IndiGo flight 6E 1275 from Mumbai to Muscat were also threatened with bombs. The flights were relocated to a remote bay where security checks were carried out immediately.
An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed that all necessary procedures were being followed to ensure the safety of passengers.
IndiGo flight 6E1275 to Muscat was scheduled to take off at 2am, finally took off at 9am and is expected to land at its destination at 9:45am local time.
IndiGo flight 6E57 was scheduled to depart at 2:05 am and is still on the ground.
Bomb scare on Mumbai-Howrah train
Adding to the tense day, the Mumbai-Howrah Mail (train number 12809) received a bomb threat early on Monday morning warning of a time bomb on board. The train was stopped at Jalgaon station around 4:00 am and underwent a thorough security check. No suspicious items were found and the train continued its journey.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of the Central Railway confirmed the incident and added that the authorities had handled the situation in a way that avoided any possible danger.
