An Air India flight from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Delhi on Monday, October 14, following a bomb threat.

The plane, which was originally bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport, was diverted to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport due to security reasons, news agency ANI reported.

Delhi Police confirmed that the aircraft is currently based at IGI Airport, where extensive security protocols are in place.

Flight AI119 was diverted as a precautionary measure based on instructions from the government’s Safety Regulatory Committee. After landing in Delhi, all passengers disembarked safely and were taken to the terminal, an airline spokesman said.

A senior police official said, “The aircraft is currently based at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and all standard safety protocols are being carefully followed to ensure the safety of passengers and crew on board.”

More similar bomb threats this year

Last month, a Vistara flight, UK 27, flying from Mumbai to Frankfurt was diverted to Turkey after the crew on board detected a reference to a bomb threat.

The Associated Press reported that there were 247 passengers and crew members on board the flight.

In another incident in August, a bomb threat led to a full-scale emergency at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport for an Air India flight from Mumbai. The threat was later ruled a hoax by police.

This flight, Air India 657, arrived in Thiruvananthapuram around 8 am and was immediately moved to an isolation zone. The plane had left Mumbai at 5:45 am and was scheduled to land at 8:10 am but landed early due to the alert.
