Man seriously injured after gunman fired over a dozen shots in Newark’s Fairmount area

Police are investigating a shooting in Newark’s West Ward after a man was shot multiple times Sunday evening.

A ShotSpotter device detected more than 15 gunshots near 188 South 6th Street around 7:27 p.m. and alerted police to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found an unknown man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen.

An ambulance was called immediately and the victim’s condition is described as serious. A car was also hit by bullets.

Police have secured the area and there is currently only one reported victim.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Tonight’s shooting is the fourth shooting in Newark this day, leaving three victims injured.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue their search for the shooter.
