Hezbollah fires rockets at Israel near UNIFIL posts

Last month, about 25 rockets and missiles were fired at Israel and IDF troops from Hezbollah terror bases stationed near UNIFIL posts in southern Lebanon, the military said.

One of these attacks resulted in the death of two IDF soldiers.

Hezbollah used both surface and underground terrain to carry out terrorist attacks against Israel and also exploited its proximity to UN forces, the IDF said.

IDF soldiers locate Hezbollah weapons

During IDF operations in southern Lebanon, soldiers of the 146th Division located hundreds of weapons, including firearms, grenades and rocket launchers, aimed at Israeli territory. Much of this weapons was stored in underground storage facilities ranging from a few meters to a few hundred meters from UNIFIL posts near the Blue Line, the IDF noted.

The IDF stated that its raids only targeted Hezbollah and that the soldiers’ activities did not target UNIFIL posts, forces or infrastructure.

On Thursday, September 30, before the start of the operation, IDF representatives submitted a request to the organization to withdraw its personnel from posts within five kilometers of the Blue Line, as this area would become an active military combat zone said.

The IDF also stated that it was maintaining communication with UNIFIL to avoid harm to personnel.
