BAHRAICH/LUCKNOW: Two of the three attackers who allegedly shot dead former MLA Ziauddin ‘Baba’ Siddique, 66, in Mumbai on Saturday are from Mumbai Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh. Both suspects Dharmaraj Kashyap And Shivkumar Gautamwere neighbors in Gandara village in Bahraich’s Kaiserganj and had no criminal record.
Dharmaraj was produced before a local court in Mumbai while Shivkumar is still at large. The third suspect, Gurmail Baljeet Singh, 23, from Haryana, was also arrested. Bahraich SP Vrinda Shukla said, “Dharmaraj and Shivkumar lived in the same village and had no previous convictions. Both are around 18 to 19 years old and were involved in scrap metal trading in Pune. After the murder, we got a call from the Mumbai police.
The police are in contact with the families of the accused.
Dharmaraj’s mother was stunned when the police informed her that her son was involved in a murder case. “Dharmaraj, the youngest of my five sons, has been living in Mumbai for two months and is involved in the scrap metal business. Dharmaraj spoke to me about 10 days ago,” she said.
Shivkumar’s mother said she came to know about her son’s alleged involvement through news reports. “He had gone to Pune to work in a scrap yard. He last came home on Holi. He hasn’t spoken to me.” His April 10 Instagram post revealed that he was employed at a warehouse where he packed and shipped online orders. His father said his son may have been manipulated into committing the crime.
Months earlier, Shivkumar had flaunted his “status” as a “gangster” on social media. “Yaar tera gangster hai jaani,” he wrote. Shivkumar has 33 posts on his social media page in which he often portrays himself as a gangster.
In a post, he called himself a villain, accompanied by a Bhojpuri song’s voiceover: “Neta na kono vidhayak, majnu hamar khalnayak hai (Not a politician or an MLA, my lover is a villain).”
