Funeral details confirmed for man killed in tragic collision in Mayo

Funeral details for a Lithuanian national who died in a tragic accident in Mayo last week have been confirmed.

Nikolaj Litvinov, of McHale Road, Castlebar, County Mayo, was pronounced dead after being hit by a car on the N60 at around 11pm on October 1, 2024.

It is assumed that the 45-year-old died at the scene of the accident despite efforts to save him.

Mr Litvinov is understood to be survived by his sister Anzelika, who also lives in Mayo, as well as his brother Mikhail and father Vladimir, both of whom live in Lithuania.

Mr Litvinov’s obituary on Rip.ie said: “Sorrow is extended to his loving family here in Ireland and Lithuania, his sister Anzelika (Castlebar), his brother Mikhail (Lithuania) and his father Vladimir (Lithuania), relatives, friends and colleagues deeply.” .’

In the days following his tragic death, Mr Litvinov’s older sister Anzelika launched a fundraising appeal on the crowdfunding website GoFundMe to cover her brother’s funeral costs.

The GoFundMe description reads: “I am currently raising funds to help with his funeral as it was so sudden that I was not prepared to lose him so quickly.”

“As I am his only family member in the country and have to help collect these donations, I ask for any kind of donation, big or small.” We would be very happy about it.

“Thank you everyone in advance for your kind donations.”

Mr Litvinoc will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Monday, October 14, between 5pm and 7pm. A private cremation ceremony will take place at Lakelands Crematorium, Co Cavan on Tuesday October 15th at 10.30am.

Gardaí are currently appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that may assist them in their investigation into the collision. You will also want to speak to anyone who may have been driving in the area with a dashcam at the time of the accident.
